Steel Railings with Stainless Steel Cable Infill at 4220 Duncan, Cortex Innovation Community, Wexford Science & Tech

The 4220 Duncan building is a part of the Cortex Innovation Community. It has 182,000 square feet of office and lab space, providing an expanded venue for innovation and entrepreneurism for small and large companies seeking to locate in the hub of the St. Louis life science and technology marketplace. Steel railings provide durability for a high traffic area, and a clean, modern look in keeping with the building’s purpose.

For the atrium of 4220 Duncan, Foreman fabricated clear coated steel railings with stainless steel cable infill and brushed stainless steel grab rails. We also supplied the “floating” steel portion of the stairs, the upper part that is cantilevered on the wall.

Foreman accommodated many design changes during the course of the build. It was a challenging project, and we’re proud of the results.

The Security Building on 4th Avenue – A Hidden Gem in Downtown St. Louis

The Security Building at 319 North 4th Street in downtown St. Louis is something you’ve probably passed by dozens of times, but unless you work or do business there, you’ve never seen how beautiful the building is.

The Security Building has some unique architectural features. The lower two floors are clad in beautiful pink granite, with pink limestone and brick features above. A steel dome sits above the lobby and art glass tops the entrance way. Foreman fabricated the custom steel framework of the dome and the steel and glass railing that sits above it.

Lambert Airport -St. Louis International

One of the most recognizable landmarks in St. Louis where you’ve probably seen our work is Lambert Airport, as our custom metal products are evident in a number of places there.

Most noteworthy, the work almost everyone in St. Louis will have seen and quite probably has laid their hands on, are the guardrails surrounding the baggage carousels. These durable custom handrails have been holding up beautifully for decades of heavy use and traffic.

Missouri History Museum Brushed Stainless Rails

The Missouri History Museum was founded in 1866 and is located in Forest Park. The Museum features many exhibits including interactive activities such as games, listening and video stations and puzzles for the whole family to enjoy. If you’ve been there, you’ve probably put your hand on a Foreman railing. Foreman fabricated the removable brushed stainless steel railings in the MacDermott Grand Hall, the Gaylord Garden Courtyard and the Bernoudy Garden Courtyard.

Removable railings allow flexibility of purpose, and increased crowd capacity in public spaces. Brushed stainless finishes are beautiful and durable enough to withstand the elements, and visitor traffic.  The History Museum itself has a uniquely calm and tranquil atmosphere. The courtyards on either side of the front lobby are often sparsely populated, and a nice spot to catch your breath. It’s a cool place to duck into, any time of the year. As you do, just remember that Foreman will always be there to support you – literally.

Foreman Crafts Bronze and Glass Stair System at Kenrick Glennon Seminary

A construction project at Kenrick Glennon Seminary in Shrewsbury, Missouri, included an elegant architectural railing that incorporated materials such as antiqued bronze, glass, aluminum and wood. BSI Constructors was the general contractor, with project manager John Kenter overseeing the details of getting the railing fabricated and installed. Canon Design provided the architectural drawings for the railing, and Foreman Fabricators was chosen for the fabrication.

Foreman began by using specialized software to create a 3-dimensional model that allowed the architect and the general contractor to view the railing from any angle, so they could readily verify and approve the specifics of how the railing was to be fabricated. Once approved, Foreman did field measuring for the stair system to match actual field dimensions with the architectural design.

Aluminum shoes were used, and cladded with bronze that Foreman fabricated to spec from muntz metal sheet. Foreman also custom made the top bronze cap from muntz, and provided the bronze brackets for the wooden grab rails, the antiquing on the bronze components and the glass panels for the infill. In the end, Foreman brought together all the critical metal and glass components the contractor needed to install the railing on site.

BSI Constructors had their own iron workers available, so they performed the installation, but Foreman’s team assisted BSI as needed along the way to ensure proper fits and to make any necessary adjustments to the provided materials.  BSI’s team did a great job on the installation, and the end result is a beautiful and distinctive contemporary railing that will hold up to years of wear and tear.
